Abandoned Cart Email Sequence for Shopify (Templates & Timing)

The difference between a 3% and 12% cart recovery rate often comes down to sequence design — timing, copy, and whether you lead with value or discounts. This guide gives you the exact framework top Shopify stores use.

Email 1: The reminder (send at 1 hour)

Subject line examples: 'You left something in your cart' / 'Still thinking it over?' / 'Your cart is saved'

Keep it short. Show product image, name, price, and a single 'Complete your order' button. No discount yet — many shoppers just got distracted. Leading with 10% off trains customers to abandon intentionally.

Email 2: Social proof (send at 24 hours)

Subject line examples: 'See why 2,000+ customers love [product]' / 'Your cart + what others are saying'

Add 1–2 customer reviews, mention bestseller status or limited stock if true. Reinforce the purchase decision without pressure.

Email 3: Final nudge (send at 72 hours)

Subject line examples: 'Last chance — your cart expires soon' / 'We saved your cart (for now)'

Optional: include a small incentive (free shipping or 5–10% off) only if margins support it. Create genuine urgency — cart expiration should be real, not fake countdown timers.
